Open Floor Plan: How to arrange the space

We all love the open floor plan, but then the question is...How do we place the furniture?
A few things you want to keep in mind are, how you are going to use the space. Then you can figure on what furniture will work best. Take out some paper and draw the room, put a few sofas, chairs, tables, etc. and get the sizing for these items.
One of the best ways to designate a space is with area rugs. Get an area rug that is large enough for the sofa, chairs and other items to fit.
Use the walls to define the space too. This model home has an open dining room, but has a wall to define this space. Separate lighting also helps to define spaces. You can see that there is one fan in the family room, light in the dining room and pendants in the kitchen.
This is your space so buy what you like, but double check the measurements to make sure it will fit in your space. As a rule of thumb, go a little smaller than larger so your room doesn't look too small.
